Credit card processing fee calculator
Work out the fee on any sale, what to charge so you keep a set amount, and what a month of card payments costs on each kind of pricing. Every formula is shown.
One sale
The fee on one sale.
Pick a provider's published rate, or type any percentage and fixed fee, to see the fee and what you keep.
Fee on one sale
fee = sale × percentage + fixed fee, rounded to the cent
How the fee is worked out
Most online card pricing is a percentage of the sale plus a fixed fee per payment. A $100 sale at 3.9% + 30¢ costs $3.90 + $0.30 = $4.20, so you keep $95.80. The fixed fee matters most on small sales: on a $10 sale the same pricing costs $0.69, which is 6.9% of the sale.
Effective rate
Your effective rate is total fees divided by total sales. It's a fair way to compare processors, because it counts the fixed fees, the percentage and any extras together. Find it on your statement by dividing the month's fees by the month's card sales.
Charge enough
What to charge so you keep a set amount.
Useful for invoices and deposits, where you know what you need to receive. Adding the fee's percentage to the price isn't quite enough, because the fee is also charged on the part you added. For a Candor invoice paid by card, use 4.3% + 30¢.
What to charge to keep a set amount
Check: $104.37 minus a fee of $4.37 leaves $100.00.
charge = (amount you keep + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − percentage), rounded up to the cent
Before you add a card fee to a customer's bill, check the card networks' surcharge rules and your state's law. Some states restrict surcharges, debit cards can't be surcharged, and the Visa and Mastercard merchant settlement, given preliminary approval in June 2026, would change the networks' surcharge rules once it takes effect.
Flat rate or interchange-plus
What a month of card payments costs.
Flat-rate pricing charges one rate for every card. Interchange-plus passes on what each card really costs and adds a fixed markup. This compares Candor's two plans using Visa's published interchange rates, plus network fees. Clear isn't open yet, so every account starts on Simple for now.
Your numbers
Estimated monthly cost
Clear costs about $361.76 less a month at these numbers ($4,341.12 a year).
Simple costs the same for cards from outside the US. Clear plan estimates use Visa's published interchange rates and network fees for the mix you pick, and for cards from outside the US they add the networks' cross-border fees (about 1.45%); those cards' own interchange can differ. Your real Clear cost follows each card exactly, and your statement lists it line by line. Monthly network fees, such as Visa's Fixed Acquirer Network Fee, and the networks' few-cent fees on declined attempts pass through at cost on Clear and are included on Simple.
